Wow! We are now in the middle of 2024. It has been a great year so far for FlipTop and there’s still much more to look forward to. Before we move along, let’s talk about what went down for the last six months. For the third time in a row in Metro Manila, the league celebrated its anniversary at a club in Ortigas. The private party was held on the 10th of February and the guests included staff, emcees, and close acquaintances. Everyone enjoyed the food, drinks, and hip-hop music all night long. There was even a freestyle session near the end. The party continued the week after with Grain Assault 13 (February 17) in Cebu and Davao. Like last year, both Grain Assaults had a block party vibe, with DJs playing quality hip-hop while fans, emcees, and other artists interacted. Both events also had an open mic session, where veteran and up-and-comers dropped their best bars on a wide selection of beats. For those who are unaware, this is FlipTop’s 14th-year celebration. Time flies indeed!

2024 saw the return of Won Minutes Luzon. The first one was held on February 24 while the second took place on May 4, and according to Anygma, there will be a third edition soon. The Visayas Division also had their first Won Minutes of the year, taking place on April 19. These events showed us that the future of FlipTop is in very good hands. We saw the debut of many promising battle emcees as well as the return of a few underrated veterans. Won Minutes Luzon 2 even had a surprise battle that is worthy of being part of the Ahon card. As for Won Minutes Mindanao, we’re hoping we can see at least one.

The first “big stage” battle event of the year is Second Sight 12 which happened on the 23rd of March. On April 20, Cebu fans witnessed the 13th chapter of Gubat. All of the battles are now available on YouTube. FlipTop then went back to Metro Manila for Zoning 17 (June 1) and Unibersikulo 12 (June 29). For those who weren’t able to see the two aforementioned shows live, watch out for the uploads! The wait will be worth it. We’ve already seen potential battle of the year candidates, shocking moments, and breakthrough performances, and the good thing is it’s not yet over.

Fans are already considering the 2024 Isabuhay to be one of, if not the best, tournament in the league. Many appreciate the unpredictability of the matches and how each emcee has stepped their game up. We’re now down to the final four and it’s definitely going to be much more exciting once the semis begin. Who do you think will face off in the finals? Who is your bet to win the championship? Let us know in the comments section.

There’s no word yet on the next FlipTop event, so make sure you follow the league’s official Facebook page to stay updated. Once again, a big thank you to the hardworking staff and emcees for giving us only quality content for over 14 years. We look forward to what’s in store for six months. We’re sure there will be more surprises!
