Are you still thinking about watching Ahon 15? Let this fan tell you who you should.
Ahon 15 takes place on the 20th and 21st of December 2024 at The Tent at Villar City in Las Pinas. There are 16 battles all in all (8 per day), two of which are for the 2024 Isabuhay and Dos Por Dos2 Championships. The non-tournament matches have also garnered excitement from fans, thus making it another must-see affair. If up to now you’re still having second thoughts about watching live, let me explain to you why you should.
Firstly, for the new fans and those who are unfamiliar, Ahon is often considered the biggest FlipTop event of the year. It can be compared to WrestleMania in WWE, Super Bowl in NFL, or the NBA Finals. Established in May 2010, it’s a celebration of the league’s exceptional rise in Philippine pop culture. In 2014 (the fifth chapter), it became the official year-end event. Ahon holds the finals of the tournaments but aside from that, there are also plenty of high-profile and game-changing matchups. Here, legends are born and legacies are cemented. Once you step inside the venue, you’re already part of battle rap history.
If you watched the previous events this year live, you would agree that the 2024 Isabuhay and Dos Por Dos2 Tournaments are the most unpredictable ever. Every competitor has the potential to become champion and it’s arguably the most diverse style-wise. GL and Vitrum may have different preferences when it comes to content but both showed vast improvements in writing and execution. What’s more important is that they maintained their originality, and I’m sure after December 21, they will have a much larger following, win or lose. I have yet to watch the Dos Por Dos2 Semis but the quarterfinals already got me very hyped up for the contest. I’m a big fan of the new generation of FlipTop emcees and they really stepped their game up here. Caspher/Hespero and Atoms/Cygnus are equipped with incredible rhyme schemes, innovative bars and angles, and undeniable chemistry. I’m expecting a back-and-forth brawl between the two teams.
How about the three-way dance between Frooz, M Zhayt, and Tipsy D? Ahon 3 was the last time we witnessed something like this so to see it come back certainly has me feeling even more excited. When these three emcees come prepared, it’s going to be an instant classic. Each one has mastered the art of well-roundedness and their delivery and presence remain highly effective. These are the type of matches where it doesn’t matter who wins or loses, just as long as we get to witness top-tier performances, and I believe we will!
Shehyee vs EJ Power is going to be an intense bout! Both are masters at dark comedy and ruthless lines and their ability to control the crowd is top-notch. This is not for the weak-hearted! Shernan vs Pistolero is a rematch from Second Sight 2 and with their much improved styles, I’m sure their second encounter will be equally memorable. I predict Lhipkram vs Sayadd to be an epic style clash, with both emcees representing their respective battle rap tactics. Hazky vs Batang Rebelde has the potential to be a comedy classic mixed with some remarkable technical lines and flows. Jonas vs Zend Luke is a very interesting battle because we will see how they showcase the superiority of their distinct techniques. Like Hazky vs Batang Rebelde, I could see Manda Baliw vs Meraj as another spectacular comedic matchup sprinkled with highly creative concepts and unpredictable schemes.
Casphero/Hespero vs Atoms/Cygnus isn’t the only 2-on-2 battle at Ahon 15. We will also see CripLi and Towpher taking on Slockone and K-Ram. We’ve seen them compete as pairs before and they’ve dominated each encounter. I’m looking forward to a clash of quality jokes and hard-hitting bars. Poison 13 vs Goriong Talas is a showdown of raw aggression and heavy lines. If they go all out with their performances, expect a battle of the night contender with this one. Harlem vs Katana is a genius matchup because aside from the obvious reasons, they’re both known for their innovative approach to angles and punchlines. I’m positive we will hear plenty of ground-breaking stuff from them. Zaki vs 3RDY is guaranteed to be an exhibition of flawless delivery, wordplays, and rhyming. Angles-wise, they have the ability to effectively think outside the box. Ruffian vs Saint Ice is personally one of the battles I’m most looking forward to. Both have superior technical rhymes and their stage presence is such a treat to witness.
