Bwelta Balentong 11 was an event to remember for the entire Philippine battle rap community. Every match delivered and the majority are candidates for battle of the year. Another surprise of the night was the announcement of the comeback of a beloved FlipTop tournament. It’s official! The Dos Por Dos is finally back. This time it’s called Dos Por Dos2. So what’s the deal behind the title? We are going to talk about that later.

For the new fans of FlipTop, the Dos Por Dos is a year-long, single-elimination tournament that focuses on 2-on-2 matchups. So far, we’ve had three tournaments: 2012, 2013, and 2017. The inaugural champions are Shehyee and Smugglaz. Their semifinal clash with Loonie and Abra remains the league's most-viewed video. 2013 saw the crowning of Frooz and Elbiz. They dominated the competition with their strong presence, undeniable chemistry, and top-tier material. In 2017, the duo of Shernan and M Zhayt took the crown. With a stacked lineup, the 2017 edition is arguably the most competitive. Many emcees garnered a wider fanbase and achieved more success, thanks to Dos Por Dos.

After seven years, we will once again witness this exciting and unpredictable contest. Now, what made FlipTop decide to add squared in the name? It’s simply because it’s a “remixed” version. The past three tournaments had 16 pairs but this year it will only consist of 8. The finals will be held at Ahon 15, together with Isabuhay. At Bwelta Balentong 11, Dos Por Dos2 already began with Caspher and Hespero facing off against Kenzer and Mimack in a back-and-forth affair. The rest of the first-round battles will happen on Second Sight 13 this Saturday at Tiu Theater. As for the semis, stay tuned to FlipTop’s social media accounts for updates.

The lineup features emcees from the Process of Illumination tryouts and previous Won Minutes events. There will be rappers from Quezon City, Cavite, Tacloban, Gensan, Manila, Isabela, Valenzuela, Iloilo, Albay, Camsur, and Tondo. While there may be no “big names” or “old gods” here, don’t ever underestimate the new breed of FlipTop. Based on their previous performances, it’s certain we are in for an unforgettable series of matches. Make sure you check out their old battles to know more about their styles and to see why they all deserve to be here.

Which team do you think will go home with the grand prize and the championship title? Feel free to share your predictions in the comments section. Watch out for Caspher and Hespero vs Kenzer and Mimack on YouTube and we hope to see you all at Second Sight 13. The pre-sale tickets cost 450 pesos while 600 pesos is the price for walk-in. It’s definitely looking bright!
