After two decades, the original DICE and K9 duo is back. They surprised the whole scene on the 23rd of August 2024 by releasing a brand new song. As of now, it has reached over 3,600 views on YouTube. Does it deserve to have millions of views? Does the group still have what it takes to make a hit? Here’s our review of “In Your Head”.
The song:
DICE and K9 reminded everyone that they’re the key figures in getting Cebu City the proper recognition in the Pinoy hip-hop community. They added that aside from music, they’re successful businessmen. It’s your usual braggadocio song but if there’s a group who has the right to do it, it’s them. Each punchline hits hard because it’s based on facts. The two emcees also showcased their undeniable charisma through their infectious flow. It may not be that technical or complex when it comes to the rhymes but DICE and K9 made up for it with some “real talk” bars, which are delivered with utmost confidence.
The chorus of “In Your Head” is what a chorus should be: simple, direct to the point, and catchy. Don’t be surprised if after playing it a few times, it will permanently get stuck in your head. As for the beat, it’s produced by none other than K9 and it’s a perfect blend of their old and modern styles as a group. The instrumental’s gritty vibe can be felt throughout but also has the right amount of commercial flavor, making it a potential club banger. It’s a testament to K9’s versatility as a producer. If this is their new musical direction, then we don’t mind at all. We’re looking forward to hearing more.
The music video:
DICE also flaunted his diversity as an artist by directing and editing the official music video of “In Your Head”. It’s a well-done throwback to the early 2000s era of hip-hop MVs, with the fancy car and the emcees just dropping their bars while rocking their finest outfits. There are also scenes of the duo passing through the beautiful CCLEX which could be a symbol of them never forgetting where they came from. The color grading is smoothly done as well, adding more creativity to the video. DICE has been doing this for a long time now, and you can clearly see his evolution here.
Conclusion:
Shockingly, the song and music video has yet to trend online. “In Your Head” features DICE and K9 going back to their hit-making mode. The song itself is catchy and contains enough lyrical firepower that can make fans of both commercial and underground rap bob their heads. The music video is reminiscent of the era of MTV and MYX and its cinematography is sure to catch your attention. Overall, “In Your Head” is another success for the duo and while it may not be a hit yet, we hope it will attract more listeners and viewers. Yes, it deserves millions of views and streams.
