Why Dos Por Dos 2024 is Historic

Last year’s Dos Por Dos Tournament is one for the books. Here’s why!

At Bwelta Balentong 11, Anygma surprised us all with the announcement of the return of a beloved tournament. The 2024 Dos Por Dos2 got many fans excited, but it also had a few vocal detractors. Criticisms aimed at the lack of “big names” or “old gods”. However, the competing teams were unfazed by them. They were focused on putting on top-tier rap displays and proving themselves to the whole world. The tournament kicked off also at Bwelta Balentong 11 on the 21st of September and ended at Ahon 15 Day 2 on the 21st of December.

What made last year’s competition different was that the lineup featured the new generation of FlipTop emcees. These are the rappers that stood out at the recent Process of Illumination and Won Minutes events. Because of this, the tournament became much more unpredictable. Every pair was bent on giving it their all, and they did exactly just that. We’ve seen not only historic, back-and-forth matches, but also breakthrough performances. Win or lose, these competitors have established themselves as elite artists in this contest.

The 2024 Dos Por Dos Tournament once again highlighted the importance of chemistry. Obviously, lyricism is very important, but teamwork is equally significant in showdowns like this. If only one is spitting fire while the other is stale, it won’t be an effective duo at all. It’s no different from basketball or any other team sport. Everyone should work in harmony to succeed. Good thing each duo last year showcased impeccable writing, presence, and chemistry. Even those who weren’t familiar with them were enthralled by what they did live. Hopefully, it inspired other up-and-comers to step their game up.

Atoms and Cygnus won the championship at the finals, and it was indeed a memorable moment. The Bicol representatives only have one individual battle each at FlipTop before teaming up for the tourney. They were the clear underdogs, with no mention of them in the early predictions. The two emcees took it all as motivation, paving the way for arguably one of the best showings in Dos Por Dos history. They displayed flawless rap skills, even introducing a rapid-fire flow that continues to amaze viewers today. Without a doubt, it’s a FlipTop success story that will never be forgotten.

Of course, the other tandems deserve praise as well. Just like Isabuhay, the 2024 Dos Por Dos also introduced us to a variety of rap battle styles. Whether you’re into personals, hardcore, technical, street, or comedy, you've got them all here. There was no dull moment from the first to the last round, thanks to the diversity in lyricism and performance.

Congratulations once again to Atoms and Cygnus, as well as to the rest of the teams that participated. No hate comment can negate the fact that every single one of you created a historic Dos Por Dos Tournament. You’ve all done a great job, and we’re looking forward to more epic moments. We’re not sure if there will be another Dos Por Dos, but hey, since last year was a surprise, maybe we’ll have one in the middle of 2025. Let’s just wait for an official announcement! If there will be a tournament, feel free to share in the comments section the teams that you would like to see.
