I’ve been a fan of FlipTop since its inception and it’s amazing to see it still alive and kicking after 14 years. Anyone saying the league is going stagnant is clearly just being a hater because that’s far from the truth. In actuality, it continues to evolve and gain new supporters. So how’s year 14 of FlipTop? Let me share with you some of the highlights of 2024 so far!

The new generation of battle emcees is so promising that it took three Won Minutes Luzon events to put a spotlight on them. We saw plenty of future top-tier talent this year and expect to see many more step up. The Dos Por Dos2 Tournament allowed several new names from the recent Won Minutes to showcase their undeniable skills on FlipTop’s big stage. Based on the crowd's reaction to the first-round matches and the quality of the bars, it looks like the tournament is shaping up to be a historic one! Which team do you think will win? Share your thoughts in the comments.

I believe many would agree with me when I say that this year’s Isabuhay Tournament is one of the best ever. It might even be THE best if GL and Vitrum go all out in the finals. We have several battle-of-the-year contenders and the majority of the emcees brought their A-game. Everyone in the lineup has the potential to become champion, hence the unpredictability of the overall series. I cannot wait for the finals! Like the Dos Por Dos2 contest, let us know in the comments section your predictions for the much-anticipated match between GL and Vitrum.

Every event this year delivered so far but we’ll focus on Bwelta Balentong 11 here. Apart from the epic card, the venue is special in terms of FlipTop’s history. It’s only the second big stage event for the league to be held in the city of Pasig. The first one was the inaugural Ahon. Since Ahon 1 was the beginning of FlipTop’s phenomenal ascent, we can consider Bwelta Balentong 11 as a celebration. Metrotent is such a huge venue but it was still packed and the crowd was active all night long. I was there and believe me I will forever cherish the experience.

As a longtime Tipsy D fan, I’ll include his comeback at Unibersikulo 12 in my personal highlights of the year. He didn’t just come back after a three-year absence; he also performed like he never took a break. His lyricism remains top-notch and continues to come up with innovative angles and schemes. As for his opponent, he deserves praise as well. Batang Rebelde has always been a phenomenal emcee who continues to evolve, and he did an excellent job in this match. I’ll go as far as saying he should be considered top-tier in the league now.

Yes, 2024 is an extraordinary year for FlipTop and the good news is it’s not yet over. There are still three more events to go: Pakusganay, Gubat, and of course, the 15th Ahon. Prepare for more unforgettable battles and moments. Now, let’s all wait patiently for updates regarding the upcoming affairs on FlipTop’s official Facebook page. Thank you to the battle emcees, Anygma, and the league’s staff for not only entertaining us but also expanding our knowledge of hip-hop for more than a decade. We will continue making some noise!
