Pakusganay 8 is this Saturday! Let this fan from Davao tell you why it’s a must-see event.
This Saturday, FlipTop returns to Davao for the eight Pakusganay event. It will be held at Classroom Bar in Rizal St, and there will be nine battles. Last year’s affair was historic, so obviously, fans in Mindanao are expecting part eight to be as memorable. I believe Pakusganay 8 has the potential to be another all-timer, and not just because I’ve already bought tickets. Let me take this opportunity to explain to you all why.
I believe we will witness prime Sak Maestro here once again. I just feel it. We already saw him go all out in another league earlier this year and since this is his comeback battle in FlipTop after Ahon 14, I can see him giving a memorable performance similar to what he did against M Zhayt in 2018. As for Lhipkram, when it comes to main event-level battles, he always brings his A-game. He remains a master in style dissection and stage presence and Pakusganay 8 will be no different. This match could be a game-changer!
As a fan of Bisaya battles, believe me when I say that despite losing at Gubat 13, Mistah Lefty did a phenomenal job there. He will face off against FlipTop veteran and Isabuhay 2023 semifinalist Plardihel at Pakusganay 8. It’s their native language so expect them to spit their sharpest rhymes to date. Since both are known for their complex pen game and raw aggression, prepare for a back-and-forth matchup! It’s unpredictable and that’s what makes it a must-see.
Goriong Talas vs JR Zero, Fukuda vs Emar Industriya, Dosage vs Article Clipted, and Empithri vs 3RDY are guaranteed showcases of top-tier lyricism. Empithri and 3RDY are known for their creative wordplays and metaphors and on-stage intensity. I’m predicting a very close battle. Dosage vs Article Clipted and Fukuda vs Emar Industriya have the potential to be cerebral matches. Dosage and Emar Industriya flawlessly represent the leftfield style while Article Clipted and Fukuda are equipped with a more in-your-face yet still intricate approach. Goriong Talas vs JR Zero may not be a style clash, but it’s a war of “methods”. Goriong Talas is armed with brutal lines and intense aggression while JR Zero is known for his solid technical lines and mesmerizing flow. I’m sure judges will have a hard time picking a clear winner here.
I’m excited for Caspher and Hepero vs Aubrey and Marichu for the semifinals of the Dos Por Dos2 Tournament. While I haven’t seen the quarterfinal matches, I’ve watched the individual battles of the emcees involved at Won Minutes Luzon and I can’t wait to see them live. I have a feeling this will be a slugfest, reminiscent of the classic DPD matches. 2-on-2 battles in FlipTop often deliver which is why I certainly won’t sleep on this one. Good luck to both teams.
Sickreto vs Derekta and JP vs Yagi are battles that represent the future of the league. Sickreto already has a few big stage battles but he’s definitely just getting started when it comes to making an impact. Derekta made his debut at last year’s Won Minutes Mindanao, and I’m sure he’s more than ready to take it to the next level. Both emcees are legitimate threats in technical lyricism and rhyme schemes. Yagi is also making his big stage debut after a splendid performance at Won Minutes Mindanao. JP lost his first FlipTop battle (Pakusganay 7) against Sickreto, so I’m sure he’s focused on getting the W now. These rappers are oozing with creativity in their metaphors and their multis are awe-inspiring. This is going to be a lyrical war!
