After watching the battles, check out the music. Here are the latest releases from FlipTop artists from the past week.
Last week, not only did we get two classic battles, but we also saw five quality music releases from our beloved FlipTop emcees. There’s a single, two music videos, a lyric video, and a full-length album. Philippine hip-hop is very much alive and well. For the battle-only fans, it’s the perfect opportunity for you to dig deeper into the minds of these talented artists and see that they offer more than just devastating punchlines and witty rhymes. So get your playlists ready and let’s begin!
Jon Protege - Favorite Life
English Conference legend Jon Protégé (known before as simply Protégé) may be “done” with battling for now, but he’s still passionate when it comes to music. On the 30th of October, he finally released his much-awaited debut solo album “Favorite Life”, which he produced, mixed, and mastered as well. In this LP, he strayed from the battle-oriented vibes and focused on spitting heartfelt rhymes from the first to the last track. It’s a deeply personal record that showcases Jon Protégé’s overall growth.
Stig x Sinio x Dara - Pano Naman Ako
Sinio collaborated with singers Stig and Dara for the song “Pano Naman Ako”. The release of the lyric video coincided with the upload of the epic Sinio vs Shernan battle at Bwelta Balentong 11. While it’s more of an R&B track, Sinio still displayed some of his rhyming skills in his verse. “Pano Naman Ako” is about a failing relationship and each artist is able to paint a vivid scene not only with their lyrics but also with their powerful voices.
Plazma - Simula ng Katapusan (feat. DJ Nicko)
It’s perfect timing for the official music video of “Simula ng Katapusan”, a track from Plazma’s 2021 LP “Ang Ulan at ang Delubyo”. It came out on Halloween night, which is also the same date of the album’s release. Directed by Gon Borela, the MV is a straight up surrealistic horror short film that successfully encapsulates the song's dark lyricism and production. If you’re a solid FlipTop fan, you should already know who the main character of the video is at first glance.
K-Ram - Iba Na
“Iba Na” is a song about missing an ex-lover and regretting not changing for the better in the relationship. K-Ram effortlessly mixes rap and R&B on Ayzakk Panganiban’s laidback boom bap beat. The official music video, which came out on the first of November and was directed by Mr. brown Film, features a darker twist to the lyrics. We don’t want to spoil it for you. Go and see it for yourself.
Flict-G - Simpleng Labsong (feat. Curse One)
“Simpleng Labsong” is part of Flict-G’s critically-acclaimed album “Kuwento”. The lyric video came out on the third of November and it stays true to its title. It’s a simple track dedicated to a significant other. However, it still managed to stand out, thanks to Flict-G’s catchy rhymes in his verses and Curse One’s amazing voice in the hook. It’s a testament to Flict-G’s creativity in both songwriting and flow.
